FRE1 · Bank of England

Which of the following groups of firms is supervised by the Prudential Regulation Authority?

Answer: A

The PRA, part of the Bank of England, supervises banks, building societies, credit unions, insurers and major investment firms, ensuring they hold sufficient capital and have adequate risk controls. Mortgage intermediaries and advisers are regulated by the FCA only.

FRE2 · Cancellation rights

A client takes out a personal pension on an adviser's recommendation. How long is the cancellation period?

Answer: B

The table in COBS 15.2.1R gives a cancellation period of 30 calendar days for life and pension contracts (including life policies, pension annuities, personal pension schemes and stakeholder pension schemes), and 14 calendar days for most other contracts such as cash deposit ISAs and units in a regulated collective investment scheme.

MRT1 · Auction methods and procedure

At an unconditional (traditional) property auction, at what point are contracts exchanged between the seller and the successful bidder?

Answer: C

At an unconditional (traditional) auction, contracts are exchanged on the fall of the auctioneer's hammer, whether the auction is held in person or online. The successful bidder is then legally bound to buy and must complete within the period set in the conditions of sale, normally between four and six weeks after the auction (or 20 business days under the Common Auction Conditions), so finance and legal checks must be in place before bidding.

MRT2 · Redeeming before or at term

A client repays her £180,000 mortgage in full during year two of a fixed rate. The early repayment charge (ERC) is 3% of the amount repaid. What does she pay in ERC?

Answer: A

The charge is 3% of the amount repaid: £180,000 x 3% = £5,400. FCA rules require any ERC to be expressible as a cash value and to be a reasonable pre-estimate of the lender's costs of early repayment, which is why lenders show it as a cash amount in the illustration.

The CeMAP exams the app covers

Since September 2025, CeMAP is five units grouped into three modules. Each unit is scored separately and needs 70% to pass. FRE1 and FRE2 make up Module 1 (FSRE), MRT1 and MRT2 make up Module 2 (MORT), and ASEW is Module 3. Candidates in Scotland sit ASSC instead of ASEW.

Questions about CeMAP Trainer

Is CeMAP Trainer official?

CeMAP Trainer is an independent study aid and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Walbrook Institute London or LIBF, the awarding body for CeMAP. The questions are written from public sources such as the FCA Handbook and legislation.gov.uk, not from official course materials or past papers.

Does it cover the new CeMAP syllabus?

Yes. The app is written for the current five-unit version introduced in 2025: FRE1, FRE2, MRT1, MRT2 and the ASEW case-study paper, with Scottish ASSC cases as well.

If your course materials still talk about CeMAP 1 (UK Financial Regulation, or UKFR), CeMAP 2 and CeMAP 3, those are the older structure. Check which version you are registered for before you start revising.

What is the CeMAP pass mark?

70% in each unit. Units are marked separately, so a strong result in one cannot make up for a weak one in another. The app's mock exams use the same rule and show you a result for each unit.

What can I use for free?

A free taster set of questions from each unit and one full case study, with no time limit. Unlocking everything is a single in-app payment. There is no subscription and there are no adverts.

Does it work offline? What happens to my data?

Everything works offline once installed. There is no account and no tracking: your answers and progress are stored only on your phone. Read the privacy policy for details.

Can I use my purchase on another device?

Yes, on any phone or tablet signed in to the same Apple or Google account. Use Restore purchase in the app's settings. Purchases cannot move between an iPhone and an Android phone, because Apple and Google handle them separately.

I think an answer is wrong. What should I do?

Tap Report a problem with this question under the answer in the app, or email [email protected] with the question. Every report is checked against the source and fixed in the next update if needed.
